Principal's Message

Dear Sherwood Heights Families,

I hope that you have been enjoying and will continue to enjoy these next days of summer before school starts.  My thoughts go to ensuring we are doing all we can to remain and keep each other healthy, support the students social-emotional learning and help everyone get re-engaged in classroom learning.

You have had much to manage over the past months with your children and have had plenty of communication about school re-entry over the past weeks.  I want to be sure that you have access to the following documents: EIPS School Re-Entry Plan , Parent FAQ , School Entry/Exit Dates.  Within these documents, you will find answers to most, if not all, of your questions.

I want to reach out to you with some more information.

We are looking forward to the staggered entry of full day orientations and seeing Grade 9’s who will attend school on September 1, grade 8’s on September 2 and grade 7’s on September 3.  Students should arrive to school at 8:30 am, wearing a mask and proceed to a homeroom designated by staff.  We will do our best to make everyone feel comfortable and connected.  I am especially concerned for our new students starting with us.  New beginnings are often a mixture of excitement and anxiety.  The staggered entry will help in alleviating this concern.  We will be providing students with a timetable, a locker and we will go over the protocols for a safe return to school.  Parents will have access to timetables in PowerSchool next week.  All students will then be at school on September 4.

Families who have chosen parent directed on-line learning will get messaging the first week of September regarding access to the Brightspace learning management system.  On-line learning will begin on September 8.  The system will provide a variety of resources for parents to support learning at home in the four core subjects.  Our teachers will provide assessment of learning.  Families who have chosen this model to start the year are welcome to return to in-class learning after the November break.

Some families may have registered with home-school outside of EIPS.  We wish you all the best, and we will miss you.  If you wish to return to Sherwood Heights, you have until the end of September to inform us of this decision.

I want to thank all our families for their patience as we work through the many issues related to this unique startup of school.  Staff are all back at school on Friday getting ready for the students first day.  If you have any questions, please contact me.
