Dear Sherwood Heights families,
I hope this message finds you all safe and doing well at home while also looking forward to a positive summer. I would like to share some information about final exams, which will be held for each core subject in two parts – Part A and Part B.
Part A exams are written and activity-based and will be held between June 3 and 17. Part B exams are Multiple Choice exams written between June 22 and June 25. Please refer to the schedule below for specific dates.
We know that this has been a very different and overwhelming year for our school community – final exams are meant to be an opportunity for students to demonstrate their cumulative learning over the course of the year. Due to the challenges faced, final exams will have little if any negative impact on a student’s final grade for the subject. However, if a student can demonstrate an improved understanding of curriculum on the final exam, a very positive impact on the student’s final grade will occur.
Between June 3 and 21, classes will operate as usual and Part A exams will be incorporated into the regular school day. From June 22 – 25, Part B exams will take place in the morning. Students who stay at school after the exam will have self-study time in their cohort group. Their homeroom teacher may or may not have expertise in a subject for which the student is studying – students should bring proper materials to study for future exams for the remainder of the day.
June 21st, which is National Indigenous Peoples Day, will not have any exams scheduled. Classes will still take place and incorporate a mix of Indigenous studies information as we celebrate our nations cultural diversity.
Some parents, for a variety of reasons, have previously chosen to not send their child to school to complete Part B of final exams or to attend study sessions. For planning purposes, please complete the following form no later than Monday June 7th, to state whether your child will attend school.
Further information regarding Grade 9 Farewell ceremonies will be sent at a later date. We are currently planning the event based on the evolving AHS guidelines.
Thank you and if you have any questions, please give us a call.
